Sitting transfer from wheelchair to bed (without trunk control) - independent

Sit in your wheelchair angled at approximately 45 degrees to the bed.
Ensure your breaks are applied.
If possible, shuffle your buttocks to the edge of the chair and place your feet on the floor.
Place your fist on the cushion of your chair close to your buttocks and your other hand on the bed trying to keep your elbows as close to your sides as possible.
When ready push down through your arms and straighten your elbows to transfer your buttocks to the edge of the bed.
Follow the movement with your head.
Keep your hand on your chair until you feel confident in a stable position.
Reposition your hips on the bed as required.
Work with your therapist to establish the optimal hand position for this transfer.
