Sensory stimulation (tactile discrimination)

Sit upright on a stable chair, or wheelchair, with your back supported.
Ensure both feet at flat.
Place a pillow on your lap and rest your affected arm on it in a comfortable position with your wrist as straight as possible and your palm facing up towards the ceiling.
It is essential that you focus on what you are doing and think about how it feels.
Using a variety of different materials such as, wool, cotton, Velcro, rope, cotton wool, plastic and metal.
Apply the stimulus up and down on each fingertip, concentrating on the fingertip and focussing on one digit at a time.

Whilst applying the stimulus think about the following:
-what does it feel like? Is it hard or soft
-where on the hand is it, remember to be specific, for example, is it on the fingertip?
- what is the direction of the stimulus?

Repeat the exercise without vision by closing your eyes.
